ayurvedic
medicine

Ayurveda is a Sanskrit term meaning knowledge of life. According to classical texts, knowledge is the key to health, happiness and success, while ignorance leads to the opposite results.

Ayurveda is a medicine that approaches the person as a whole, considering body, mind and spirit. As a result, patients are key players in the process through their active participation. There is a component of transmitting knowledge. This may involve a change in diet and lifestyle.

A consultation in traditional medicine is always based on a meticulous study of everything that may have led the patients to an imbalance in their state of health, the aim being to identify the cause and eliminate it. This involves examining the details of the patient’s personal and family history, as well as the physical and psychological context of their current life. A treatment plan is then drawn up, including internal and external treatments (mainly herbal) as well as nutritional and lifestyle advice. All of this is then passed on to the patient in the clearest and most practical way. If indicated, psychological support is also provided.

Ayurveda offers two therapeutic levels.

The first takes place in the outpatient clinic and aims to restore health as far as possible by reducing the excessive functional principles.

The second takes place during an inpatient stay of two to three weeks, for a more in-depth treatment that eradicates the excessive functional principles from the body. These treatments are indicated when outpatient treatment is not sufficient, or to maintain health and prevent recurrences.

Duration and pace of consultations

New patients are cared for by means of two initial consultations lasting an average of 2 to 2.5 hours each.

Subsequent consultations last an average of 1.5 hours at intervals of 1 to 3 months.

Reimbursement by health insurances

The medical consultation is reimbursed by the basic insurance (TarMed, Swiss medical tariff).

Ayurvedic consultations are reimbursed by all supplementary insurances (Tariff 590) that reimburse Ayurveda in Switzerland, which is the case with almost all insurances, especially when the consultation is given by a doctor.

Reimbursement depends on the cover provided by the insurance contract.
